I was very impressed with Session 1 of OpenPD. I have taken several professional development courses online and after this session, OpenPD has become my favorite. It is so nice and refreshing to meet a group of educators who are just as passionate about integration technology into their teaching as I am!
My personal learning objectives for this course:
1. Learn more about the use of Web 2.0 technology in education and identify the most appropriate tools to integrate into my teaching.
2. Discuss and develop a better understanding of best practices in integrating Web 2.0 technology into the classroom.
3. Grow my professional learning community.
A good part of the session was spent meeting the other course participants and reviewing how to connect to chat/stream & manage all the browser windows, which will hopefully result in a smoother experience. I like how the course is taught using many of the tools we will be learning about. I am definitely a visual and hands-on learner, so the way in which the content is presented and demonstrated in this course is perfect for me. I am familiar with some of the tools covered in the course, but others are new to me.
During Session 1, we watched a video titled Shift Happens. I had viewed this particular clip before, but did not take the time to reflect. At first the statistics presented are quite shocking. However, given the chance to sit back and reflect, you realize there is no exaggeration. As the world changes and technology continues to develop at such a rapid pace, the field of education will experience a significant shift. In order for us, as educators, to meet the challenges brought about by this shift towards a more technologically advanced world, we will need to collaborate, embrace technology, and become power users of all the tools available to us.
